On December 19th a group of seven PhD-students from the IME Graduate School and the Chair for Information Management and Systems visited RWE-Trading in Essen. We have been familiarized with the business field and internal structure of the company, with a particular focus on the standing of RWE-Trading on the European Energy market. This presentation provided interesting insights to the work of energy traders and the view of the affected companies to the ongoing discussion on energy prices and emission trading.
After a lunch break and excellent food from the firm’s canteen, three of us presented recent research activities related to energy markets and emission trading. The resonance by RWE was very positive and led to lively and fruitful discussions in between and after the talks.
The visit was concluded by a guided tour through the Essen trading floor of RWE-Trading.
In summary, the event was very constructive to academics and practitioners, and both sides agreed to stay in close contact for mutual profit.
