15.12.2010 IME Christmas Party
|
Ph.D students and professors of the IME Graduate School celebrated their Christmas party on 15th December.
As one of the evening's highlights, Christof Weinhardt, speaker of the Graduate School, handed out the second volume of the book "Information Management and Market Engineering" to the authors. The book has been published by the Graduate School and contains articles on the research work of the graduate students and their professors.

06.06.2008 Invited Talk by Prof. Dr. Axel Ockenfels
Prof. Dr. Axel Ockenfels (University of Cologne) gave an invited guest lecture at the IME Graduate School. Prof. Ockenfels presented his work in cooperation with ebay, in which he proposed a redesign of the popular auction platform's reputation mechanism ("Engineering Trust: Reciprocity in the Production of Reputation Information"). Prof. Ockenfels especially highlighted the importance of a smooth transition between market mechanisms - practical advice for the future "market engineers". After his talk, several IME Students presented their dissertations to Prof. Ockenfels in a poster presentation and received valuable comments.

21.06.2007 IME Excursion to IBM Development Center in Böblingen
The IME Graduate School organized an one-day visit to the IBM Development Center in Böblingen. The visitors consisted of IME members and colleagues from IME-related institutes as well. Several interesting talks are given concerning ongoing research in IBM such as Cell Computing, Dynamic Warehousing, RFID technology etc. The visiting group also visited the computing center at IBM Böblingen.

06.02.2007 Workshop on "Advancement of Innovation under Competition"
The Center for Applied Law (ZAR)/Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kühling, LL.M. and the IME Graduate School held an interdisciplinary workshop on 6 February 2007 on "Advancement of Innovation under Competition". Over 30 researchers from many universities and research institutes joined the workshop. The workshop firstly addressed the interdependency of competition and innovation from a legal and economic perspective. The subsequent talks concerned the optimisation of rules governing innovation in the field of competition law, state aid law, intellectual property law as well as institutional law.

01-02.02.2007 6th IME Colloquium
Following a successful serie of colloqiums, the 6th IME colloquium was held in Bad Herrenalb again on the first two days of Feburary, 2007.
We had sessions with plenary discussion, group discussions as well as single talks between professors and students. Besides interactive discussions at daytime, we organized Bowling as the night event, in which all professors as students took part and enjoyed.

18.02.2006 Official Welcome of a new IME member
We welcome Nicolas Gauß as a new Ph.D student of our graduate school. His research interest is the relation of competition law to dynamic markets.
In particular he focuses on the question, if markets that are characterised by innovation have to be regulated by competition law to safeguard future innovation, or if it is better for the advancement of innovation not to interfere in such markets and protect existing innovation.

For three days more than 100 speakers (including keynote speakers Prof. Richard Roll and Prof. Darrell Duffie) discussed a broad spectrum of finance topics in parallel sessions. In the poster sessions, we presented a selection of recent research work, including credit risk management, emission trading, internalisation in securities, simulation of financial market, ontology driven market etc.

STOCCER won 2nd prize of the contest "Service World Champion"
The research project STOCCER has won the 2nd prize of the contest "Serviceweltmeister Baden-Württemberg". STOCCER is a forecasting market for the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany. Our graduate school member Stefan Luckner is working on the STOCCER project.

19.10.2005 CPS won 2nd price at the InfoVis Conference 2005
The CPS (Company Positioning System) developed by ISM Team has won the second price at the the InfoVis Conference 2005! The software visualizes the economic environment via a positioning system that datamines company profiles. Our graduate school member, Michael Blume, is one of the main contributors to this system. The other team members are Bettina Hoser,
Markus Andreas Franke and Jan Schröder.

Prof. Schwartz gave a two-day lecture on "Information Processing in Markets". Prof. Schwartz is Marvin M. Speiser Professor of Finance and university distinguished professor in the Zicklin School of Business, the City University of New York, with expertise on finance economics. In his lecture Prof. Schwartz focused on quantity and price discovery for equity shares when market participants have adaptive evaluations.

We welcome Michael Blume (chair of Prof. Weinhardt), Jörn Dermietzel (chair of Prof. Seese), Ralf Löschel (chair of Prof. Berninghaus).
